Here at Noah’s Ark, we rely entirely on visitors for our income – ticket sales and income from the café and gift shop is what keeps us afloat.
Due to Covid-19 events, the Zoo was forced to close for 7 months and so this has caused a huge strain on our resources. Being closed to the public was hugely challenging for us as we still needed to feed and care for our animals. Even in lockdown we needed a team of 20 dedicated keepers working hard to care for our animals seven days a week. Despite the government moving forward with the next steps of unlocking and the zoo now being open, we are limiting visitor numbers to the zoo, restricting our income.
It costs us £8,000 each month just to feed our animals.
Each animal has different needs, from elephants and rhinos to gibbons and meerkats. These are animals with specialist diets, and they need skilled care from trained animal keepers. To keep our animals happy and mentally stimulated, we also provide animal enrichment, such as creating hammocks for our bears. Alongside day-to-day animal needs, this enrichment takes a considerable amount of keeper’s time and resources.
We appreciate any help from our visitors, from donations and adoptions to just sharing and liking our social media posts!

Alongside our animal care, it is also of upmost importance for us to ensure our zoo is as accessible as possible for all visitors. We therefore are investing a considerable about of money into our 'Ark for All' plan. This includes ensuring we have facilities for visitors that need extra care when at the zoo. Stage one of this plan has already been completed, including adding a new Changing Places Toilet, accessible play equipment and child-friendly accessible signage.

We have already had a considerable amount of support from our visitors. This has been through donations, adoptions and more. Larry Bush, MD of Noah’s Ark commented: “It has been so moving to receive messages of support and generous donations from people who obviously love Noah’s Ark. This means so much to all of us and is helping us keep going through these difficult times.”
We will hugely appreciate any donations you may wish to make. These donations will help feed and care for our animals and ensure all our visitors can enjoy our wonderful zoo experience.
